This exquisite vintage Chinese cloisonné teapot is a remarkable example of traditional craftsmanship. Measuring 16.73” x 11.81” and weighing 10.26 lbs, it stands as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and renewal.

Set against a turquoise blue background, the teapot is elegantly decorated with scrolling lotus flowers and foliage. It rests on four scaly, ferocious dragon feet, embodying the legendary power of the Chinese dragon. The spout takes the form of a dragon’s head, complete with gold scrolling manes and fearsome, savage teeth, while the long tail extends gracefully at the back.

Adorning both the front and back of the teapot are high-relief, oval-shaped Hetian jade plaques, adding an element of luxury and tradition. The top lid features an intricately hollow-carved Hetian jade ornament, while the bronze handle is further enriched with a Hetian jade carving of a dragon and its young, symbolizing protection and prosperity. A Qianlong mark is inscribed at the bottom, reflecting its historical inspiration.

Symbolism of the Spiral Patterns & Dragons

The teapot showcases spiral-shaped patterns in various forms, including continuous swirling lines, cloud-like motifs, and maze-like whirlpool designs. These patterns hold profound meaning in Chinese culture, symbolizing the endless cycle of life, continuous renewal, auspicious protection, power, and mysticism.

At the heart of this masterpiece is the dragon, one of the most iconic and revered symbols in Chinese tradition. Unlike Western dragons, which are often seen as destructive forces, the Chinese dragon is a benevolent, wise, and powerful being that represents strength, wisdom, and prosperity. Over thousands of years, dragons have influenced Chinese mythology, folklore, imperial power, and daily life, making them an enduring symbol of good fortune.
